ICAI and Indian accountancy profession recently added on to their pride as one of the foremost members, veteran former President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), CA. Narain Dass Gupta was elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha from Delhi on 8 January, 2018.
He served as the President of the ICAI in 2001-2002 after being its Vice President in 2000- 2001 during which he proactively mentored and espoused the cause of the Indian accounting profession across all layers of India polity.
An ace professional with exceptional organisation skills and down-to-earth society-centric approach, a meritorious CA. Narain Dass Gupta is the first ever Indian to be elected on the Board of International Federation of Accountants, the world accounting body of 164 regulatory accounting bodies of 116 countries. CA. Narain Dass Gupta Gupta served the ICAI as a Central Council member continuously from 1988 till 2002.
A philanthropist to the core, he was instrumental in mobilising generous support from Indian Chartered Accountant fraternity for the victims of devastating Gujarat earthquake of January 2001 towards Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.
All through his long and distinguished professional career, he has held high positions in various Government and other bodies.
