COMBATTING MODERN DAY FRAUDSTERS WITH DIGITAL TOOLS

Doha Chapter (“The Chapter”) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), conducted the professional seminar on Combatting Modern Day Fraudsters with Digital Tools on 3rd June, 2018, which is currently the most interesting topic amongst the members.

Around 100 Finance professionals, in senior positions and stake holders in various businesses and organizations across Qatar attended the event.

CA Rupalakshmi Setty, Chairperson of the chapter, in her address mentioned that technology has transformed the way we used to do business and record business transactions. The very tools that make the business transactions happen with lighting speed have also presented a heightened risk of bigger frauds by misusing these tools.

Mr. Mubeen Khan is a most sought-after speaker in detecting and investigating many fraud cases in GCC region. In a very interactive presentation he enlightened the audience on the real life fraud case studies. Using real life scenarios and facts, he illustrated the various causes and methods by which fraud occurs. Uses of tips are by far the most common initial detection method of fraud and organisations with hotlines detect around 46% of fraud by tips.He further mentioned that in the digital world, accountants are the best people to take leap in artificial intelligence.

Cautionary data was presented on the ease that technological facilities provided for fraudulent schemes such as by keylogging, remote monitoring and Spyware, mobile bugging. As part of conclusion, he emphasized that trust is good but control is better.
